The NICU Nurse Orientation Journal was created by Nurse Kelly’s Notes, a nurse-run business founded by an experienced NICU nurse and former Nursing Professional Development Specialist. This unique offering for provides newly hired NICU nurses an opportunity to reflect on their journey through orientation to one of the most challenging, unique, and niche places to work in healthcare. It encourages nurses to reflect on their feelings pre- and post-shift, to identify ways to provide self-care during the exciting and overwhelming path to becoming an independently practicing nurse in the neonatal ICU, to set goals for the shift, reflect on what they learned, what they did well, and what they could improve upon. It can also be used by preceptors to reflect on their performance as a clinical coach and identify ways to improve their mentorship, leadership, and guidance.
